SYMPTOMS

You may receive Event ID 56 from w32time on a child domain controller (DC).

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the secure channel password between the child domain controller and its parent domain controller is not updated properly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
