SYMPTOMS
In some cases, SQL Server needs to allocate memory in addition to the memory that is reserved for the buffer pool. In some rare situations, multiple threads in the server that allocate and de-allocate this memory can fail with an access violation.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
