SYMPTOMS

When you save a picture as Wallpaper in any of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, the size of the saved image may not be retained.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design.

When you save a picture as Wallpaper in any of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, the saved image saved is sized to fit the entire screen area of your monitor by default.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

Save the Picture as a Windows Bitmap

  1. Under Picture Options, click Save or Send.
  2. Click Save As.
  3. Under Click a folder, click the folder in which Microsoft Windows is installed.
  4. Under Save as this type, click Windows Bitmap (*.bmp).
  5. Type a file name, and then click Save.
If you are using Microsoft Picture It! 2000, follow these steps:
  1. On the Workbench tab, click Save & Send.
  2. Click Save As.
  3. Under Click a folder, click the folder in which Microsoft Windows is installed.
  4. Under Save as this type, click Windows Bitmap (*.bmp).
  5. Type a file name, and then click Save.

Change Your Wallpaper in Microsoft Windows

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display.
  3. On the Background tab, click the file that you saved by using the previous method.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  5. Close Control Panel.
