MORE INFORMATION

Update Requirements

To apply the SP-2 Administrative Update, your Office 2000 administrative installation must be at the SR-1/SR-1a level. If you attempt to apply the SP-2 Administrative Update to an administrative installation that is not at the SR-1/SR-1a level, you receive the following error message:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
If you need to update your Office 2000 administrative installation to the SR-1/SR-1a level, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Install the SP-2 Administrative Update

Note You must run this command from a computer on which the Windows Installer is already installed.
  1. Click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box:

    msiexec /a Admin Path\Data1.msi /p Source Path\Sp2admin.msp SHORTFILENAMES=1

where Admin Path is the path to your administrative installation point for Office 2000 SR-1, and Source Path is the path to Sp2admin.msp. The path to Sp2admin.msp varies according to the following table.
       SP-2 Source Path to .msp
       ----------------------------------------------------

       Sp2admin.exe download C:\Sp2admin
       SP-2 Update CD-ROM <CD-ROM drive>\Sp2\Admin

Note <CD-ROM drive> in the preceding table is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive. The Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog box appears.
  2. Click Next in the Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog box.Note You do not have to type your CD Key or company name in the Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog box.
  3. Click I accept the terms of the License Agreement, and then click Next.
  4. Click Install Now.
  5. Click OK when the update is finished.
  6. At this point, your administrative installation point is updated with the first of four .msp files. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for each of the remaining three .msp files listed as follows:
    • Excelmst.msp
    • Out2kmst.msp
    • Pptmst.msp
When you apply each of the .msp files, make sure to change the .msp file name used in the command line in step 1.

Omitting the installation of the Out2kmst.msp file is not an option if you do not want the Outlook E-mail Security Update, because the necessary registry updates are contained in the file. The Out2kmst.msp, Pptmst.msp, and Excelmst.msp files update the registry, and the Sp2admin.msp file updates the files on the computer. Updated versions of all .msp files must be applied to the computer in order for the upgrade to succeed. Failure to apply all .msp files will put the Office 2000 SP-2 Administrative image in an unsupported state.

Note When you apply Excelmst.msp, Out2kmst.msp, or Pptmst.msp to your administrative installation, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Internal Error 2250: Please contact product support for assistance.
    -or-
Internal Error 2251: Please contact product support for assistance.
If you receive one of these error messages, click OK and then proceed with the next .msp file in the list. These are not fatal errors; they indicate that you already applied an update to your administrative installation that contains the same update as the .msp file that you just used.
