SYMPTOMS

When you apply the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) Update or any other update (patch) to your Office 2000 installation, you may receive the following error message
The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.

Insert the 'Office 2000 product' disk and click OK.
where Office 2000 product is the name of the Office program that is installed on your computer.

You may receive this error message even though you have an Office 2000 family product CD in the CD-ROM drive.

CAUSE

Two or more Office 2000 family products are installed on your computer, and the CD in the CD-ROM drive is not the Office product that is being requested. For example, you have Microsoft Access 2000 stand-alone and Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Edition installed, or you have Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business Edition and Microsoft Office 2000 Premium installed.

RESOLUTION

The resolution varies, according to whether all of the programs in one Office 2000 family product are included in the other Office 2000 family product that is installed. For example, all the programs in Office 2000 Small Business Edition are included in Office 2000 Premium Edition.

Then use one of the following methods as appropriate.

All Programs in One Product Are Included in the Other Product

If all programs of one Office 2000 family product are included in the other Office 2000 family product, uninstall the redundant Office 2000 family product.

To remove the redundant Microsoft Office 2000 product from your computer, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Office 2000 (or the appropriate Office 2000 family product), and then click Add/Remove. If you installed Microsoft Office from a CD-ROM, you are prompted to insert CD1.
  3. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Remove Office (or the appropriate Office 2000 family product name). If you are prompted to restart the computer after Setup is completed, restart the computer.

All Programs in One Product Are Not Included in the Other Product

If one Office 2000 family product does not contain all the programs of the other Office 2000 family product (for example, Access 2000 and Office 2000 Standard Edition), you must insert the CD for each Office 2000 family product, as requested by the update that is being installed.
