You receive an ODBC error message when you import a secured Access database to Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002 (278206)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
- Microsoft Outlook 2000
- Microsoft Access 2000
- Microsoft Access 2002
This article was previously published under Q278206 SYMPTOMS When you attempt to import tables from an Access 2000 or
2002 database to Outlook 2000 or 2002, the following error message may appear:
An ODBC error has occurred in the Microsoft Access
translator while opening a file to build a field map.
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Records(s) cannot be read; no read
permissions on NameOfTableInMDBFile.
CAUSE This behavior can occur because the Admin user, which is
the default username in Access databases, does not have sufficient permissions
to read the database file. WORKAROUND To work around this behavior, open the Access database with
administrative permissions, make a note of the current permissions, and then
grant Read Design and Read Data permissions to the Admin user for all of the
tables in the database. Perform the import again. When the import is complete,
open the Access database again, log in as a database user with administrative
permissions, and then set the permissions back to their original
settings. For more information about how to secure a Microsoft Access
database, see the following article: Q254372 Description
of how to help protect a Access 2000 database
