OL2002: Contact Names That Use Outlook 98 'First Last' Format Change to 'Last, First' After Upgrade (278153)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q278153

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Outlook 98 to Outlook 2002, the Contacts File as format for names changes from "First Last" to "Last, First". That is, the Outlook 98 File As box shows "John Doe", but after the upgrade, Outlook 2002 shows "Doe, John."

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of a difference between Outlook 98 and Outlook 2002. Outlook 98 lacks a true "First Last" name format and uses the contact's display name instead. Not recognizing this format, Outlook 2002 reverts to the "Last, First" name format when it saves the contact again.
