OL2002: Security Zone Is Not Correct When You Upgrade to Outlook 2002 on a Multi-User Computer (278146)

SYMPTOMS

If you have Microsoft Outlook 2000 Service Release 1 and 1a (SR-1 and SR-1a) installed on a computer that is configured for multiple users and you upgrade to Outlook 2002, logged on as the administrator, the first user that is logs on with user permissions completes the Outlook first run. Subsequent users log on and complete their Outlook first run.

Only the first user receives the correct Internet security zone setting.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, each user that logs on and runs Outlook after the first user should run Detect and Repair on the Help menu. Detect and Repair corrects the Internet security zone setting.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

When you view the registry keys, the following registry key is not updated correctly for the second and subsequent users that run Outlook:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Internet Settings/Zones/4

The 1400 Name has a REG_DWORD data value of 0 instead of 3.

The user that installs Microsoft Office first on a computer receives the correct registry key setting, while all other users do not unless they run Detect and Repair. Detect and Repair changes the incorrect registry key to the correctly value of 3.
