OL2002: Shortcut Icon Appears as a Regular Icon After You Drag It to E-mail Message (278075)

SYMPTOMS

When you drag a shortcut icon from the desktop to an Outlook 2002 message, the icon appears as a regular icon for the file instead of as a shortcut icon. The name of the file appears as *.*.lnk.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the Insert File feature in Outlook 2002:
  1. In Outlook 2002, open a new message.
  2. On the Insert menu, click File, and then locate the shortcut on the desktop or on your hard disk.
  3. Click the shortcut file name, and then click the Insert arrow.
  4. Click Insert as Shortcut.

MORE INFORMATION

The shortcut-naming rule in some non-English languages is different from the U.S. English rule. For example, on a Japanese-language operating system, the shortcut file name is "*.* shortcut.lnk". If the original file name is longer than 20 characters, the "shortcut" part is cut off, so you may not be able to tell that it is a shortcut icon by looking at it. This issue also occurs with other languages that include "shortcut" as part of the file name.
