OL2002: Outlook Performance Is Slow When Names Are Checked in New Meeting Request (278057)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q278057

SYMPTOMS

When you add names in the Scheduling tab of a new meeting request, Outlook 2002 may appear to stop responding (hangs) until each attendee's name resolves (displays as an underlined name) and their Free/Busy time appears.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Outlook 2002 checks the Free/Busy folder on the Microsoft Exchange Server for each attendee's Free/Busy time, which takes time to retrieve.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, type in the attendees' names in the To field first, and then click the Scheduling tab to check the Free/Busy times for all attendees at once.
