This article was previously published under Q277921 SYMPTOMS
When you print Swedish documents to a Generic/Text Only printer that is configured with a font selection code page 850 (Multilingual Latin 1 (850)), Swedish accented characters such as A or O with a ring or dieresis above the character print as black squares.
If you print the same documents to a file and then view this file with a hexadecimal editor, you can see that the affected characters all translated to the same hexadecimal value, 0xFE.
CAUSE
This problem can occur when the affected characters are incorrectly translated to 0xFE because of incorrect coding of the translation table for code page 850.
