SYMPTOMS

When you update a table of contents in a Microsoft Word 2000 master document, you receive no error message and Word stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you insert a single subdocument into a master document more than one time, and then update the table of contents field (TOC) in the master document.

RESOLUTION
