XCON: RPC Queue Spikes After Increasing Cache from 50 MB to 100 MB (277854)

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q277854

SYMPTOMS

When you increase the cache size on a server from 50 megabytes (MB) to 100 MB, Exchange 2000 Server may experience periodic spikes in the remote procedure call (RPC) queues. This may be related to DSaccess expiry thread processing.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because with the larger cache size, expirations by time-out occur more frequently, instead of expirations by size limitation. Because the time-out thread starts every five minutes and purges all of the expired entries, this places a heavy burden on the DSaccess locks until all the expirations are complete, which limits other uses of DSaccess for the duration of the process and causes the RPC queuing.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
