FIX: Time Stamps Change When You Use MSI to Install a COM+ Application (277820)

SYMPTOMS

Time stamps are changed on component dynamic-link library (DLL) files that are installed with COM+ Microsoft Installer (MSI). On Windows 2000, the creation and modified dates are set seven hours ahead. On Window 2000 SP1, the modified date is changed to the creation date (or a few seconds off from the creation date), and the problem reproduces well when the creation and modified dates differ.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Get a component DLL with different time stamps for the creation date and the modified date. (This problem is easier to reproduce when the creation and modified date are different.)
  2. Add this component DLL to a COM+ application.
  3. Export the application to generate an MSI installation.
  4. Delete the COM+ application.
  5. Run the Microsoft Installer to install the COM+ application.
  6. Refer to the file at Program Files\COMPlus Applications\Application GUID, and note that the dates on this file differ from the original file.
