SYMPTOMS

If a process that uses Design-Time Control (DTC) proxy is running on a Windows 2000-based computer that connects to a remote DTC, the computer never goes to Stand By mode automatically, even though no transactions are running and all interfaces have been released.

NOTE: This only applies to automatic Stand By (after you select 1 min in the Power-Management control panel). You can still click Shutdown on the Start menu, and then click Stand by.

CAUSE

When local DTC proxy contacts the remote DTC, it opens a registry key on the remote computer when the ITransactionDispenser::BeginTransaction method is called. The resultant registry handle is not released through the lifetime of the DTC process. This active network communication between the two computers prevents the client computer from going to Stand By mode.
