XFOR: Exchange 2000 Migration Does Not Work and Event ID 12010 Is Logged (277805)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run the Exchange 2000 Server Migration Wizard to migrate users from Lotus Notes to Exchange 2000, the Migration Wizard may not extract the data from the Domino server and may log the following error message in the Application event log in Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Event Viewer:
Event: 12010
Source: MSExchangeMig
Type: Error
Description:
Failed to initialize the Notes Migration session.
Make sure 'ntsmig.dll' is in the 'exchsrvr\bin' directory.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must stop the Exchange 2000 Connectivity Controller service while you run the Migration Wizard to successfully extract data from a Notes server.

The error message in the "Symptoms" section of this article is misleading and does not indicate the source of the problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
