SUMMARY

When you view a message with an attachment in the preview pane, the header does not have a Paperclip icon that indicates that there is an attachment.

MORE INFORMATION

The Paperclip icon functionality is no longer supported in Microsoft Outlook. The preview pane does not display an inline attachment or the actual attachment in the body.

In Outlook, there is now an Attachments section in the header. This section lists all the viewable attachments. To retrieve them, you may either right-click the file, and then click Save to save the attachment, or you can double-click the attachment, and then click Save to disk or Open.

If the attachment has been sent inline, the item is visible in the previewed body of the message. To retrieve them, you may either right-click the file, and then click Save to save the attachment, or you can double-click the attachment, and then click Save to disk or Open.

Another method to access attachments is through the File menu. When a message with an attachment (inline or not) is selected, and is you view it in the preview pane, click Save Attachments on the File menu. A submenu appears with a list of possible attachments to save, and an option to save All Attachments.

However, if the attachment is shown inline in a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatted message, the list of available attachments may say None instead of a file name. If there is only one item that displays inline, you can click None, and it allows you to save the item. If there is more than one item in the message, it is necessary to right-click the item to save it. If you use the Save Attachments option on the File menu, it only recognizes the first item that is shown in the message.
