SYMPTOMS

When you debug an application in Visual J++ on Windows 2000, the performance of the application is much slower than when you run the application outside of the debugger.

CAUSE

This is caused by a synchronization issue in the debugging functionality of the Microsoft virtual machine (Microsoft VM), which causes the debugger threads to sleep for inordinate amounts of time.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install build 3319 or later of the Microsoft VM. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:WARNING: After you install the updated Microsoft VM, you cannot uninstall it.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This bug was corrected in the Microsoft VM build 3319.
