All Users Are Not Deleted in the Connector Space (277666)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Metadirectory Services 2.1
- Microsoft Metadirectory Services 2.2
This article was previously published under Q277666 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Management Agent (MA) after you delete all the users from a container that is being discovered, the import file is empty and the users that were deleted from the connected directory remain in the metadirectory. However, if there is at least one user in the import file, you are able to delete all users successfully.
CAUSE
This behavior is by design. This functionality prevents the entire connector space from being accidentally deleted if the Cdir program, which is used to access the connected directory, does not discover any objects.
Any number of objects can be deleted successfully by Microsoft Metadirectory Services (MMS) except when all objects are deleted from the container. This behavior also occurs with any management agent except Active Directory Management Agent.
RESOLUTION
If you encounter this issue when you attempt to delete all the objects in a container, manually delete all child objects under the container. To delete the objects under a metaverse container, the objects must first be disconnected. To disconnect an object under a metaverse container, follow these steps:
- Click the affected container.
- Right-click the object, click Delete, and then click Delete child entries only.
- Click the Yes button.
This procedure deletes the objects under a metaverse container. It also converts the connectors that are associated with these objects to disconnectors in the connector space.
To delete the disconnectors, click the connector space container and repeat the preceding steps to delete the disconnectors.
To delete connector space objects without deleting the associated metaverse objects first, click the container in connector space and follow the preceding steps twice. The first pass converts the connectors to disconnectors. The second pass deletes the disconnectors.
