SYMPTOMS

When you attach a device to the serial port on your computer and run the Add New Hardware tool in Control Panel, the device may not be detected.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To work around this issue, disable Advanced Power Management (APM) for the serial port. To disable APM for serial devices, change the data value of the EnablePowerManagement binary value in the following registry key from 01 00 00 00 to 00 00 00 00:
