XL2002: Scatter Chart Series Lines and Trendlines Are Not Printed Correctly (277593)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a scatter chart, the data series and trendline may appear to have moved from their original location.

This problem occurs in both the printed chart, and print preview.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when you print to some printers if all of the following conditions are true:

You are using one of the printers listed below and the resolution is greater than 300 dots per inch (dpi).
You create an XY Scatter Chart with lines connecting the scatter points.
You add a trendline to the chart and you base the trendline on a data range larger than the data range that you used to create the chart.

The problem can occur with the following printers:

Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5P/5MP
Tektronics Phaser 740 Color Laser Printer
HP 4si/MX

The problem does not occur with all charts, or with all printers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

When you create a chart from a data range, make the chart from only the data which you intend to print.

Method 2

Increase the data range of the printed chart so that it includes all of the data that is in the chart from which the trendline was created.

Method 3

Use a different printer.

Method 4

Reduce the resolution of the printer to 300 dpi.

To reduce the resolution of a printer, follow these steps:

In Excel, click Print on the File menu.
In the Print dialog box, click Properties.
On the Graphics tab, click inside the Resolution box.
Click 300 dpi, and then click OK.
