SideWinder Force Feedback 2: Buttons in the Game Controllers Tool Do Not Light Up (277464)

When you attempt to test the Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2 game controller in the Game Controllers tool or the Gaming Options tool in Control Panel, the buttons in the Game Controllers tool may not light up.
In addition, when you attempt to test the forces on the Forces tab, you may not feel any force feedback effects.
NOTE: The game controller centers itself when you place your hand around the joystick, but no forces are applied when you press the buttons.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the SideWinder Force Feedback 2 game controller is connected to a VIA Universal Serial Bus (USB) Host Controller that is installed in your computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, download and install the VIA USB Host Controller software update from the following Microsoft Web site:
NOTE: You cannot install this software update if a VIA USB Host Controller is not installed in your computer.
