PRB: BizTalk Messaging Manager: Cannot Set Encryption for Port to an XLANG Application (276915)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q276915

SYMPTOMS

When you create a BizTalk messaging port to an XLANG application, the option for data encryption is disabled.

CAUSE

This BizTalk messaging port behavior is by design. BizTalk does not allow users to encrypt data being sent to an XLANG application for two reasons:
  1. The design for sending data to an XLANG application was never meant to be delivered to a computer other than the BizTalk Server computer. If it was not designed to be sent off this computer, no encryption is needed.
  2. BizTalk Orchestration does not have a component that automatically decrypts the data it receives.
BizTalk Orchestration relies on BizTalk messaging to perform all encryption and decryption functions. Sending encrypted data to XLANG applications is not necessary and is not recommended.
