SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Windows Media Player 7, your computer may not be able to use Hibernate mode or Standby mode. Although your computer appears to be hibernating, your computer may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install the Adaptec compact disc recordable (CD-R) plug-in during the Windows Media Player 7 installation procedure.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, upgrade your Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). For information about how to upgrade your BIOS, contact the computer manufacturer.

If you do not want to update your BIOS, download Windows Media Player 7 from the following Microsoft Web site, and then click to clear the Adaptec CD-R Plugin check box during the installation procedure: Note that if you are using a notebook computer, you should upgrade to the latest BIOS version before you install Windows 2000.
