SYMPTOMS
After you download and install a program from the Internet, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
- Your computer may start and shut down very slowly.
- Your computer's performance may significantly decrease.
- If your computer connects to a network, you may experience a substantial loss of network connectivity speed.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if your computer has the W32/Msinit Internet Worm virus or the Bymer.Scanner Trojan virus.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, obtain and install an anti-virus program to detect and remove any viruses that are on your computer.
To work around this issue:
Windows 95/98 and Windows 98 Second Edition- Restart the computer, and press CTRL or F8.
- On the Startup menu, choose Command Prompt Only.
- Delete the following files from the C:\Windows\System folder:
Wininit.exe
Dnetc.exe
Dnetc.ini
Msxxx.exe (Where xxx is a number or the letter I followed by two numbers. This is commonly Msi216.exe.)
Msclient.exe (This file may not exist in all cases.)

- Restart the computer.
