This article was previously published under Q276261

SUMMARY

This article describes how to designate Entourage as your default e-mail program. This is helpful when you have more than one program that handles your e-mail messages.

MORE INFORMATION

You can set Internet programs to handle certain actions with the Apple Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS) Internet Control Panel. For example, if you click the MailTo link in a Web page, the default e-mail program responds with a pre-addressed e-mail form. The default e-mail program also responds when you double-click the Mail icon on your Apple Macintosh desktop.

NOTE: Although the Internet configuration features of the Mac OS interface that are described in the following steps allow more extended functionality, these steps only cover the e-mail program configuration. To set Entourage as your default e-mail program:
  1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels, and then click Internet.
  2. Click the E-mail tab.
  3. In the Default E-mail Application dialog box, click Microsoft Entourage.
  4. Click Save.
NOTE: These steps apply to the Internet Control Panel interface in the Mac OS version 8.5 and later (including all versions of 9.0). Mac OS version 8.1, which is the minimum operating system version that is supported by Entourage, uses the Internet Config application.
