CAUSE
This problem occurs when the "PowerPoint Toolbars (9)" preferences file is damaged, which may occur when you modify or customize a toolbar that contains the Font list.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this problem from occurring, please download and install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 file from the following Microsoft Web site:
If you are currently receiving one of the error messages, your PowerPoint Toolbars (9) file is already damamged. To resolve this problem, delete the PowerPoint Toolbars (9) file, which resets PowerPoint to use your default toolbars. To do this, follow these steps:
- Quit all programs.
- Open the following folder:
System Folder:Preferences:Microsoft
- Locate the "PowerPoint Toolbars (9)" file and drag it to the Trash.
- On the Special menu, click Empty Trash.
NOTES:
You can create a custom toolbar that includes the same functions as the Formatting toolbar, as long as you do not include the Font list on the toolbar. Any time you include the Font list on a toolbar, you experience this problem.
If the computer is set up for multiple users, more than one PowerPoint Toolbars (9) file may exist. In this scenario, if removing the first PowerPoint Toolbars (9) file does not resolve this issue, please search for additional PowerPoint Toolbars (9) files on the computer.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Service Release 1.
