Active Directory-Integrated DNS Zone Deletion May Not Work (276023)

When you perform the following sample procedure, Active Directory-integrated DNS zone deletion may not work:
- Create an Active Directory-integrated zone named x.y.z.
- Delete the x.y.z zone.
- Before the x.y.z zone is deleted from the Active Directory, shut down the domain controller (DC).
- Create an Active Directory-integrated zone named x.y.z. Note that the zone name is the same as the zone you created in step 1.
- Delete the x.y.z zone. Note that the zone is not deleted.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if the DC shuts down before the deletion is complete. When this occurs, the zone you tried to delete remains in the Active Directory forever. When an administrator tries to delete the zone, the administrator cannot because DNS does not rename the zone to deleted.zone name because the zone name still exists in the Active Directory. For example, DNS does not rename the x.y.z zone to deleted.x.y.z.
