WD2002: "Show Heading" Buttons Are Missing from Outlining Toolbar (276010)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Outline on the View menu, the Show Heading buttons are missing on the Outlining toolbar.

CAUSE

The default design of the Outlining toolbar is changed to add new functionality. As a result, the following eight buttons were removed from the Outlining toolbar and replaced with the new Show Level menu:
  • Show Heading 1
  • Show Heading 2
  • Show Heading 3
  • Show Heading 4
  • Show Heading 5
  • Show Heading 6
  • Show Heading 7
  • Show All Headings

The following new features have been added to the Outlining toolbar.

New feature Function
Promote to Heading 1 Allows you to promote the selected text to Heading 1 style.
Outline Level Paragraph formatting you can use to assign a hierarchical level (Level 1 through Level 9) to paragraphs in your document. For example, after you assign outline levels, you can work with the document in Outline view or the Document Map.
Show Level Allows you to show the lowest heading level that you want to display. This feature replaces the Show Heading 1 through Show Heading 7 and the Show All Headings buttons in earlier versions of Microsoft Word.
Update TOC Allows you to update your table of contents. If you have multiple tables of contents, this button updates the first table of contents in your document.
Go to TOC Takes you to the table of contents. If you have multiple tables of contents in your document, this button takes you to the first table of contents in your document.
