WD2002: Difficult to Select Text on the Line Above the AutoCorrect Options Button (276003)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to select text that is on the line directly above the AutoCorrect Options button, the AutoCorrect Options button may be displayed on top of the text you are trying to select.

WORKAROUND

To select text that is on the line above the AutoCorrect Options button, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Move the Mouse Pointer Quickly over the AutoCorrect Options Button

  1. Quickly position the mouse pointer over the text that you want to select, before the AutoCorrect Options button is displayed.
  2. Now select the text.

Method 2: Wait for the AutoCorrect Options Button to Disappear

  1. Move your mouse pointer to the left of the word that you want to select.
  2. Wait a moment for the AutoCorrect Options button to disappear.
  3. Now you should be able to select the text.

Method 3: Use the Keyboard to Select the Text

  1. Move the insertion point to the left of the word that you want to select by using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
  2. Press SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW to select the word.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To turn off the AutoCorrect Options button so that it is not displayed, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to AutoCorrect Options, and then click the Smart Tags tab.
  2. Clear the Show Smart Tag Actions buttons check box, and then click OK.
