SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Microsoft Windows 2000 on an IBM NetFinity server, the IBM NetFinity 10/100 NetFinity Fault Tolerant network adapter may not function properly, and may display a "Code 28" error status code in Device Manager.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when the IBM DMI service layer is installed under Windows NT 4.0.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Use Regedt32.exe to delete the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PCNet
- Restart your computer.
When your computer restarts, Windows 2000 reinstalls the driver, and the service.
