Windows Media Server Does Not Log Query String in Log File (275324)

SYMPTOMS

Windows Media Server does not log the query string of the URL in the log file. For example, if you open the following URL with Windows Media Player:

mms://panthers/sample.asf?param1=test

The following log entry for cs-uri-stem is returned:

mms://x.x.x.x/sample.asf

CAUSE

This is the default action.

RESOLUTION

The entire URL can be logged by changing the following registry parameter:

  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nsunicast\Parameters

  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

    Value Name: LogQueryInClientURL
    Data Type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: Decimal, or Hexidecimal
    Value: 1

  4. Quit Registry Editor.
A question mark must be used to define the beginning of the query in order for it to be logged.
