Kerberos Does Not Work After Connecting to Windows NT 4.0 Share When Using Smart Card Logon (275248)

SYMPTOMS

When you log on by using a smart card, making network connections with Kerberos may not work after you connect a network drive to a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based share. After this occurs, certain functions such as the application of Group Policy do not work.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Credential Manager uses NTLM authentication instead of Kerberos when you attempt to gain access to Windows 2000-based domain resources.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
