SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a message in Microsoft Outlook 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/1a) that has the E-mail Security Update applied, Outlook 2000 may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the e-mail message contains an attachment that includes a long file name, over 256 characters, when Outlook has the E-mail Security Update applied. Without the E-mail Security Update, this problem does not exist.

RESOLUTION
