PPT2001: Memory Error, Hang Saving PowerPoint 2001 File as PowerPoint 4 File (274714)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Macintosh
This article was previously published under Q274714 For a Microsoft PowerPoint 98 version of this article, see 183226.
SYMPTOMS
When you save a PowerPoint 2001 presentation in the PowerPoint 4.0 format,
you may receive one of the following error messages:
Memory is too full to draw everything.
The application "Microsoft PowerPoint" has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 25 occurred.
CAUSE
The PPT Translator 8-4 program does not have enough memory assigned to it to translate the presentation. By default, the preferred size is set to 8000 K. If you are attempting to translate a large PowerPoint presentation, 8000 K may not provide enough memory.
NOTE: If virtual memory is turned on, the default preferred memory size is 8000 K.
If virtual memory is turned off, the default preferred memory size is 9729 K.
RESOLUTION
To resolve the problem, increase the memory size for the PPT Translator 8-4
program by following these steps:
- Quit PowerPoint.
- Open the Microsoft Office 2001:Office:Translators folder.
- Click to select the PPT Translator 8-4 program icon.
- On the File menu, point to Get Info, and then click Memory.
- Increase the Preferred Size setting by 1000 K.
- Open the presentation and attempt to save it as a PowerPoint 4.0
presentation. If you still receive the error messages described in the
"Symptoms" section of this article, repeat steps 1 through 5 to
allocate additional memory to the PPT Translator 8-4 program until you
are able to save the presentation.
NOTE: Do not increase or decrease the Minimum Size setting. Increasing or decreasing this memory setting may cause problems with the program.
MORE INFORMATION
The PPT Translator 8-4 translates PowerPoint 2001 presentations to the PowerPoint 4.0 format. This translator is an application program. In contrast, the other two PowerPoint translators (PPT Translator 4-8 and PPT Translator 7-8) are libraries, not application programs. Therefore, these translators use memory assigned to PowerPoint when translating.
