Description of the Maximum Number of Security Role Member Accounts on a Folder (274673)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001
This article was previously published under Q274673 SUMMARY
For performance reasons, it is recommended that you do not specify more than 200 individual accounts as security role members on a folder. In this article, an account is defined as either an individual user account, or a domain or local group account.
MORE INFORMATION
When you assign approvers, you use a different properties dialog box than when you assign reader, author and coordinator security roles. However, approvers are also a security role and should be included in the 200-account limit. Therefore, the combined number of entries for readers, authors, coordinators and approvers on a folder should not exceed 200 individual users or groups. If this number is exceeded, you may experience performance and usability issues.
In addition, the number of approvers on a folder should not exceed 50 individual accounts. When you use SharePoint Portal Server, you cannot assign domain or local groups as approvers (this action is not supported); therefore, the 50-account limit refers to individual user accounts.
