XL: Series Order Is Reversed When Chart Type Is Changed to 3-D (274531)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel 97 and Microsoft Excel 2000, when you change your chart from a two-dimensional to a three-dimensional chart type, the order in which the data series categories are displayed in your chart may be reversed.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you do the following:

You create a two-dimensional bar chart.
You format the vertical category axis of your chart with the following Scale options:
- Value (Y) axis crosses between categories
- Categories in reverse order
You change your chart type to 3-D Bar Chart.

This problem may also occur when you do the following:

You create a two-dimensional column chart.
You format the horizontal category axis of your chart with the following Scale options:
- Value (Y) axis crosses between categories
- Categories in reverse order
You change your chart type to 3-D Column Chart.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the order in which your data series categories are displayed. To do this, follow these steps:

On the chart, click to select the data series that you want.

Notice that the Name box contains the name of the selected data series.
On the Format menu, click Selected Data Series.
Click the Series Order tab. In the Series order list, click the series that you want, and then click Move Up if you want to move the series up, or click Move Down if you want move the series down.
Click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
