PIP Error Message: A Required .DLL File, MHPUTILU.DLL, Was Not Found (274461)

SYMPTOMS

If you have one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article installed and you run Norton WinDoctor, you may receive the following error message from WinDoctor that is associated with any of the above programs:
A required .DLL file, MHPUTILU.DLL, was not found.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Norton CrashGuard, Norton WinDoctor or Dr. Watson is installed on your computer and is running in the background when you start one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article.

The programs listed at the beginning of this article install the Mhpmrg.exe file which is linked to the Mhputilu.dll file.

If either Norton CrashGuard or Dr. Watson are running when you start one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you receive the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article if the Mhputilu.dll file is not found on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and install the Picture It! Publishing 2001 Utility to remove information about the Mhpmrg.exe file from the Windows registry. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

It is found that the programs listed at the beginning of this article will run smoother if Norton CrashGuard, Norton WinDoctor or Dr. Watson are turned off prior to running the programs listed at the beginning of this article.

IMPORTANT: If you installed Picture It! Publishing that ships in the Microsoft Works Suite 2000 or Microsoft Works Suite 2001 package, perform the following steps to prevent a licensing agreement error message:
  1. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  2. Click to expand the Program Files folder.
  3. Click to expand the WorksBkUp folder.
  4. Click to select the Works Shared folder.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  6. Click to expand the Common Files folder.
  7. Click to select the Microsoft Shared folder.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  9. Click Yes to All to overwrite existing files and folders.
  10. Close Windows Explorer.
