Computer May Not Restart After Unsuccessful System Restore with Drive Overlay Software Installed (274460)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q274460 SYMPTOMS
After you use the System Restore tool to restore a restore point to revert the computer to a previous state, the computer may not restart.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the restore point does not restore your computer correctly and the hard disk uses drive overlay software.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of the drive overlay software to determine how to restart the computer from a Startup disk while using the drive overlay software.
The Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Startup disk contains a program that is designed to automatically undo an unsuccessful restore point in most circumstances, allowing the computer to restart successfully as though the unsuccessful restore did not occur.
