SYMPTOMS

If you perform one of the following tasks in Microsoft Outlook 98 or in Microsoft Outlook 2000, Microsoft Outlook may disappear or cause an access violation:
  • You select the Calendar folder, and then create a meeting or an appointment request.
  • You open an existing meeting or an appointment request.
However, if you open the same mailbox in Microsoft Outlook 2002 or in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, the program may function as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the appointment or meeting duration exceeds 23 years, and the client generates an access violation in the heap.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, manually enter the date of the appointment or meeting.
