ACC2002: Unexpected Underscore Character in a Data Access Page Name (274378)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 2002

This article was previously published under Q274378
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

After you save a data access page, you notice that one or more unexpected underscore characters appear in both the page name in Access and in the file name.

CAUSE

When you first saved the page, you entered a file name that contained an invalid character, such as an equal sign (=). Access automatically replaces the invalid character with an underscore character without displaying an error.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. In the Database window, click Pages under Objects, and then click New.
  3. Click Design, and then click OK.
  4. After the new page appears, click Save on the File menu.
  5. When you are prompted for the file name, type =TestPage.
  6. Click Save. Note that the page is saved without an error message and that the equal sign (=) is changed to an underscore character: _TestPage.htm
