PUB2000: Cannot Set Line Screens When You Print to an HP LaserJet 5000 Printer (274375)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q274375 SYMPTOMS
If your computer is running one of the following operating systems
- Microsoft Windows 95
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)
you cannot set the line screens when you print to a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5000 printer from Microsoft Publisher 2000.
You cannot set the frequency (LPI) or the angle (degrees).
Regardless of the settings that you select in the Properties dialog
box for the printer or in the Advanced Print Settings dialog box in
Publisher 2000, the frequency is always printed at 106 LPI.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the PostScript Printer Definition (PPD) file
that the HP LaserJet 5000 printer installs on the operating systems listed
in the "Symptoms" section of this article does not support the PostScript
line screen command that Publisher 2000 uses.
The installer for the HP LaserJet 5000 printer installs the HP5000_4.ppd
file on these operating systems.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, install the updated version of the PPD file
for the HP LaserJet 5000 printer. The HP5000_7.ppd file is included with

the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

file, and then click Copy.

or other removable media, and then click Rename.
