PRJ2000: "Error 1904. Module Pjprots.dll Failed to Register" During Setup (274338)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Project from an administrative installation location on a network, you receive the following error message:
Error 1904. Module path\pjprots.dll failed to register.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Temporary Workaround

To temporarily work around this problem, manually register Pjprots.dll. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, browse to the the administrative installation location on your network.
  2. Locate the Pjprots.dll file in the following folder:

    Pfiles\Msoffice\Office

  3. Click pjprots.dll, and then click Copy on the Edit menu.
  4. Browse to the folder that Microsoft Project 2000 Setup creates. By default, the folder is in the following location:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office

  5. On the Edit menu, click Paste. Quit Windows Explorer.
  6. Click Start, and then click Run.
  7. In the Open box, type the following command:

    regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\pjprots.dll"

  8. Click OK.
After you receive confirmation that Pjprots.dll was successfully registered, install Microsoft Project 2000.

NOTE: You may continue to receive the error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section. If this occurs, click Ignore to successfully complete the installation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
