FIX: Sending Open Files as Attachment in SQL Mail Fails with Error 18025 (274330)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to send an open file (for example, SQL Error Log) as an attachment by using SQL Mail, you may receive the following error message (18025):
Server: Msg 18025, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
xp_sendmail: failed with mail error 0x80004005

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hotfix

NOTE: The following hotfix was created prior to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

WORKAROUND

First make a copy of the open file, and then send it as an attachment.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
