ICS Folder Missing from the Windows Me CD-ROM (274302)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Help and Support Troubleshooter for Internet Connection Sharing in Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the troubleshooter may instruct you to turn Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) on by going to the Tools\Mtsutil\ICS folder on your Windows Me CD-ROM, but the folder is missing.

CAUSE

The ICS folder is not included on the Windows Me CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and click the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ICSharing\Settings\General

  3. Click the EnableDHCP value in the right pane.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

    Note that you can turn DHCP off by changing the data value to 0 (zero).
  5. On the Registry menu, click Exit.
