XCON: Access Violation Occurs During Replication When SMTP Service Stops and Restarts (274063)

SYMPTOMS

When you replicate between two computers, where one computer has posted to a few newsgroups, and you have a script running to start and stop the SMTP service, the following access violation error message may appear after a few replication cycles:
net use \\nntp2 /u:administrator \\\\"\\\\" remote /c nntp2 inetinfo
This behavior can occur between a domain controller and a member server.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
