Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes Does Not Deliver Mail (274054)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5
This article was previously published under Q274054 SYMPTOMS
In BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS), when you use the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) Mailboxes, mail may not be delivered to some recipients. When this issue occurs, you do not receive any non-delivery reports (NDR) or any other warning messages, including Event Log warnings or errors. Other recipients on the same server are able to receive mail. In addition, the following symptoms may be present: - When you view either the User Mailboxes tab or the Connect and Download tab in the properties for the POP3 Connector, a duplicate user mailbox may be displayed. The duplicate mailbox entry may or may not be able to receive mail.
- When you delete the duplicate mailbox entries and then re-create them, the mailbox entry may disappear from the list. When you attempt to re-create the mailbox entry, the new mailbox seems to be added, but it may or may not be displayed in the list of mailboxes. Even if the mailbox name is in the list of mailboxes on the server, the user still may not be able to receive mail.
- When you set all the diagnostics logging levels to their maximum setting on the Diagnostics Logging tab of the POP3 Connector, a series of events is reported in the application event log of Event Viewer that shows that the POP3 Connector is downloading messages from the Internet Service Provider (ISP). However, when the messages are downloaded, the messages are not delivered. Instead, they are silently deleted.
CAUSE
When 16 or more global ISP mail hosts or user accounts are added to the POP3 Connector, the POP3 Connector's internal directory database may be corrupted. The corruption can result in any of the conditions listed in the "Symptoms" section.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, ensure that you do not add more than 15 accounts to the POP3 Connector at this time.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
