America Online Service's Country Picker Shortcut Is Unavailable in Add/Remove Programs (274013)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to remove an America Online Service (AOL) Internet Free Trial shortcut on a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) desktop, you may receive the following message:

Are you sure you want to delete the shortcut to Country Picker? This will not uninstall the program.

To uninstall Country Picker, use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

In Control Panel, when you click Add/Remove Programs, Country Picker is not displayed as a component to remove.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because AOL's Internet Free Trial shortcut is labeled as Country Picker within AOL's Setup program, the Aolsetup.exe file. This file is installed in the Program Files folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, when the preceding message is displayed, click Yes on the dialog box to remove AOL's Internet Free Trial shortcut from the desktop.

If you want to remove AOL's Internet Free Trial shortcut using the Add/Remove Programs icon, perform the following steps:

Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Click the Windows Setup tab.
Click the Online Services component, and then click Details.
Click to clear the America Online check box, and then click OK.
Click OK.

AOL's Internet Free Trial shortcut is generated when you double-click the Aolsetup.exe file or click America Online on the Online Services menu. The Confirm Shortcut Delete dialog box is displayed because the Aolsetup.exe file is a registered program that is installed in the Program Files folder.
