The Add Network Connection Wizard does not show all the options (273861)

This article was previously published under Q273861 SYMPTOMS When you try to use the Add Network Connection Wizard in
Windows 2000 Professional to add a network connection, the following options
may be unavailable (grayed out):
- Dial-up to a private network
- Dial-up to the Internet
- Accept incoming connections
CAUSE This issue may occur when you upgrade your computer from
Microsoft Windows NT to Windows XP Professional, and the following services do
not install successfully:
- Remote Access Connection Manager
- Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Note This issue may also occur if the Remote Access Connection Manager service is not started. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, you must install Remote Access
Connection Manager and Remote Access Auto Connection Manager. To do so, follow
these steps:
- Click Start, point to
Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and
then click Services.
- Right-Click Internet Connection Sharing,
and then click Start.
Internet Connection Sharing requires Remote Access Connection
Manager. When you start Internet Connection Sharing it causes Remote Access
Connection Manager and Remote Access Auto Connection Manager to install, and
the issue that is described in the Symptoms section of this article is
resolved. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
