XCLN: Error Message Occurs When Opening the Instant Messaging Object (273847)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open the Instant Messaging object or when you attempt to retrieve properties on the object, you may receive the following error message:
Error
IIS returned unexpected results. Trying this operation again or restarting IIS may correct the problem.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you do not have sufficient permissions to access the Microsoft Internet Information Service (IIS) metabase. To open the Instant Messaging object, you must have permissions to read and write to the IIS metabase.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, have an administrator add you to the computer's local Administrators group. You then have access to the metabase, and the ability to review Instant Messaging object(s).

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
